Impact
Impact on Children and Community
Dorchester is stronger because its young people have Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester; a place where they can spend time with caring adults and participate in enriching programs. These stable relationships and opportunities equip children and teens with the tools they need to be successful in school, make healthy lifestyle choices, form supportive social networks, and develop leadership skills.
Families benefit, too. Oftentimes parents juggle multiple jobs and trust the Club to provide their kids with a nutritious dinner, help them complete homework, and encourage them to explore BGCD’s enrichment activities. All of this alleviates stressors at home and contributes to a family’s economic security.
Children and teens who attend a Boys & Club at least once a week:
- Earn higher grades
- Are more physically active
- Have a keen sense of right and wrong
- Don’t skip school
- Are less likely to engage in risky behaviors
- Parents of Club members have stable incomes and are steadily employed
